Impressions from the first meeting in Celacovice
Participating in COMENIUS – Our trip in Czech Republic
My school participates in the European Program, COMENIUS . The partnership project is called «Human Rights in Europe between Ideal Reality: Rights and Challenge for students in the 21st Century by means of Poetry, Arts and Music. The countries which take part in this program are the following: Czech Republic, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Poland and Germany. The first meeting took place in the Gymnasium Celakovice, the organiser school, in the Czech Republic.
Our team consisted of two teachers and three students of the second class. The teachers of each country stayed in a hotel, whereas the students accepted hospitality by students of the Celakovice Gymnasium.
The first time we visited the school was on Friday 30 September 2011. Gymnasium Celacovise is a huge building with many classes where students aged 5-16 years old study. We all gathered in a hall where one of the Czech Republic teachers welcomed us and gave us a tour to the school building. Later on students separated from the teachers in order to get to know each other and give information about their country and their school.
The program included different activities between the students which concerned the subject «Human rights». Moreover students watched films and videos, discussed and exchanged ideas through art and music.
On Saturday morning the school organised a tour to Prague. We were all excited with the old town, the historical monuments and the architecture of the city.
The students had also the opportunity to meet each other after school. We gathered in the pub of the village, we talked about our lives, our school, our country and we promised to keep in touch after that meeting. So we do. We often talk in the facebook and learn their news.
I also want to refer to the Czech family’s hospitality. Everyone was very kind and friendly. Sunday was the free day and we spent it with the family. I had a pleasant time while I was watching the traditional dances and songs of the country.
Participating in this program I had an exciting experience. I learned a lot of things but the most important thing was the fact that I met new friends !

Our official debut (GR)
This week the Greek Comenius Team officially starts its activities in Greece.
The Teachers' Council of 3rd Upper Secondary School "Miltos Kountouras" has introduced and accepted the programme “HUMAN RIGHTS IN EUROPE BETWEEN IDEAL AND REALITY. RIGHTS AND CHALLENGE FOR STUDENTS IN THE 21ST CENTURY BY MEANS OF POETRY, ARTS AND MUSIC” in School extra-curriculum Activities of the school year 2011-2012 (Action 10/27-10-2011).
Celebrating this event, we present you a part of the work "Erotokritos" of Vitsentzos Kornaros. Kornaros composed Erotokritos in Crete. Erotokritos is a romance which takes place in Athens in early 17th century. It consists of 10,012 fifteen-syllable rhymed verses in the Cretan dialect. Central issue was the true love between two people, Erotokritos (Rotokritos or Rokritos) and Aretoussa and sets great store in many other issues such as honor, friendship, bravery, patriotism, courage, protection of identity and privacy. The direct model of this work is the French popular medieval romance Paris et Vienne composed by Pierre de la Cypède, which was printed in 1487 and was widely disseminated, being translated to many European languages.
The music video "Erotokritos" was performed in 2010 by 77 artists, in 44 locations around Athens (Nea Filadelfia, our suburb, included at 4:34, 5:18). Their initiative is based on the belief that art and especially music, has the power to inspire and above all to unite people in a common struggle.
”Logically live - collaboratively act - play as a team - protect the environment and the planet - respect human rights and fight against their violation” is our own motto too.
Good Luck!

It is a fact that most people nowadays are not aware of the legitimate HUMAN RIGHTS, that were first declared on December 10th in 1948, shortly after the establishment of the Organization of United Nations in the same year.
The following is a questionnaire created by pupils and teachers being participated in Celakovice Comenius project meeting. It aims to collect data about High school pupils' awareness of fundamental human rights.
It is written in English and Greek language and will be given for completion by students from November 1st until November 30th, 2011. Responses will automatically fill in the spreadsheet.
When you finish, you could look at the previous responses and the relevant graphs!!! Deadline: November 30th, 2011

Impressions from our trip in Celakovice
We left Athens at 6:30 in the morning - very early for us -in September 29th.
Our final destination was Celakovice in Czech Republic, a few km away from Prague.
We were going to participate in the first Comenius meeting there.
We reached Zurich airport at 8:05 and we got the train to Zurich center. Light fog stretched out on the city but all of us were walking along the banks of the river and we enjoyed the landscape. Everything was nice...
Our visit in ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule ) was the most unexpected event. The view of Zurich from the hill was super... Another one was the decoration of the Institute which impressed us very much . It was referred to the classical antiquity with the statues of Asklepios and Zeus. Especially in the cafeteria the Nike of Samothrace and the frieze of the Parthenon attracted our attention.

Many discussions, tight schedule, nice weather, wonderful Prague, effective communication, contributions, collaboration, social events and good atmosphere spoken for a better future.
Celakovice
We left Celakovice in Tuesday morning full of emotions.
We reached Geneva for a break before our return in Athens. We enjoyed the walking in the old side of the city for 5 hours and 2-hour delay at the airport.
Looking forward to our next meeting in Cyprus... in March 2012...
